Counselling Psychologists are trained to use a variety of therapeutic ideas and methods, as well as to apply and interpret psychometric tests and conduct research. After finishing a bachelor's degree in psychology, they complete a three - five year post-graduate training at university and within the NHS.
I received my first degree in psychology (BSc) from the University of London and obtained my Pratictioner Doctorate in Psychotherapeutic and Counselling Psychology (PsychD) from the University of Surrey. I then qualified for my Chartered Status (CPsychol) and Practising Certificate from The British Psychological Society and am an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society.
I have worked as a Clinical Psychologist in a Primary Care Mental Health Team, a service for adults with severe and enduring mental health difficulties. There I assessed and treated problems such as psychosis, personality disorders, severe anxiety and depressive disorders. I also saw those who experienced extreme emotions, trauma, abuse, obsessions and compulsions, chronic fatigue, ill health and pain, eating disorders, self harm and suicidal behaviours.
I have also worked in: an Older Adult speciality team; a general Psychotherapy Department; a Primary Care GP practice and a specialised Eating Disorder Service.
I am also a Chartered Scientist registered with the Science Council, hold a European Certificate in Psychology (EuroPsy), and am registered with the Health Professions Council.
Research
