Life Coaching
"Definitions of Life Coaching or Personal Coaching vary considerably and there have been concerns that the growing number of inappropriately trained coaches may cause harm to clients, particularly those who have unrecognised mental health problems." (Cavanagh, 2005)
"Chartered Counselling Psychologists are therefore eminently qualified to provide Coaching on the basis of their solid understanding of mental health difficulties and also the psychology of human change. Futhermore they possess the ability to develop coaching interventions based on theoretically-grounded case conceptualisations using evidence-based processes and techniques." (Grant, 2006)
Coaching Psychology is for enhancing well-being and performance in personal life and work domains underpinned by models of coaching grounded in established adult learning or psychological approaches (adapted Grant and Palmer, 2002).

In my practice, Life Coaching is also based on:
- A genuine and equal, trusting, empathic and collaborative relationship.
- A desire by the client to focus on the future, whilst acknowledging the effects of the past.
- A willingness by the client to work through challenging issues towards greater self-confidence, empowerment and a more productive and happy life.
- The ability of the client to make changes to enhance their life, whilst maintaining self-acceptance.
Life Coaching aims to bring about positive change and facilitate personal growth through support in developing self-awareness, enhancing motivation, the setting of goals and prioritising in all aspects of personal life.
